Our History

Events Crew began long before the business was formally registered. Its roots go back to youth and community events in Sherborne, where founder Brent Mitchell first developed a passion for live events, practical delivery and bringing people together. What started as an informal collective supporting local projects gradually evolved into a trusted event equipment, infrastructure and logistics business working across the UK and Ireland.

Mid-1980s

The origins of Events Crew can be traced back to Sherborne Youth Centre in the mid-1980s. It was there, as a young DJ, that founder Brent Mitchell first became involved in live events and entertainment. Alongside a number of friends who are still connected to the business today, he developed an early interest in putting events together and helping make them happen.

Late 1980s to Early 1990s

Brent later went on to study at Manchester University, where he became involved in the events side of the Student Union. During that time, he helped organise a wide range of bands, balls and discos, building further experience in the planning, organisation and practical delivery of live events. Those years helped shape the hands-on, solutions-led approach that still defines the business today.

1990s

After building a successful career in the construction industry, Brent returned to Sherborne and began supporting youth and community projects in the local area alongside long-standing friends and contacts. As these projects grew in scale, so did the level of support required. One of the best-known examples was the annual Sherborne Fireworks Extravaganza, which became a major part of the group’s early event involvement and remains an important part of the company’s story.

Late 1990s to Early 2000s

As local events became larger and more ambitious, Brent increasingly called on friends from Manchester and beyond to support the Sherborne “crew” in delivering them. What emerged was an informal volunteer collective with a strong team spirit, practical mindset and willingness to do whatever was needed to make an event succeed. That collective became the foundation of Events Crew.

2003

In 2003, Events Crew was formally established as a Limited Company. This marked the transition from an informal events collective into a structured business with the right legal, insurance and operational foundations in place. From this point onwards, Events Crew began supporting Ironman events and has since gone on to support every UK and Ireland Ironman event from 2003 to the present day.

2003 onwards

From there, the business grew steadily and invested heavily in equipment, infrastructure and transport. Over time, Events Crew expanded its asset base to include tower lights, fencing, barriers and transport, while developing a broader service offering built around event infrastructure, logistics and practical site support. While the equipment and capabilities have grown significantly, the business has always believed that its greatest asset is its people.

2011

A major turning point came in 2011, when Brent left his role as a main board director at Balfour Beatty to focus on Events Crew full-time. That decision gave the business greater momentum and allowed it to grow with more direction, stronger investment and a clearer long-term future.

2012

Events Crew supported London 2012 by supplying lighting towers and barriers for the Weymouth Sailing Venue, adding a major national milestone to the company’s growing portfolio.

2013

The business supported its first Great Dorset Steam Fair in 2013, adding another significant large-scale event to its growing list of repeat and high-profile work.

2014

In January 2014, Rosie joined the business full-time, strengthening the internal team as the company continued to grow. The same year also saw Events Crew support the UK leg of the Tour de France, further establishing its experience in major cycling and route-based events.

2014 to 2017

During this period, Events Crew continued to build its reputation across major sporting and public events, supporting projects including the Vitality Run Series from 2014 to 2017 and the Edinburgh Marathon Festival from 2015 to 2018.

2018

The year 2018 was a particularly important one for the business. Events Crew supported its first London Marathon, began supplying fencing at Glastonbury Festival, and supported major projects including Pope Francis’ visit to Ireland, the Salisbury poisonings response, HSBC Let’s Ride and Race for Life / Pretty Muddy. This period reflected both the scale and variety of work the company had grown capable of delivering.

2019

In 2019, Events Crew supported the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, including trackway and activity village build support, while continuing to work on major event programmes and repeat national projects.

2021

Events Crew supported the G7 Summit in Cornwall in 2021 and also began work at Ageas Bowl Southampton, a relationship that continues to the present day. During the wider COVID period, the business also provided support to the UK Government, demonstrating flexibility and capability beyond traditional event work.

2022

In 2022, Events Crew supported the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, adding another major national event milestone to its growing portfolio of complex, high-profile work.

2024

In January 2024, the business moved to Dipper Works, marking an important step in its operational development and future growth. Later that year, Events Crew also supported the European Political Community event at Blenheim Palace.

Autumn 2025

In Autumn 2025, Tyler stepped into the role of full-time General Manager, reflecting the continued development of the company’s leadership structure and operational maturity. In the same year, the business also supported the Tour of Britain cycling event.

Today

Today, Events Crew is a family-owned and run business based at Dipper Works, Henstridge Airfield in Somerset, supporting clients across the UK and Ireland. The company now works across major sporting events, festivals, venues, construction support, civic projects and film & TV locations, combining quality equipment with reliable transport, practical logistics and a service-led approach. While the business is more mature, better resourced and more strategically focused than ever, it still reflects the same values that shaped it from the start: teamwork, commitment, flexibility, service and doing the job properly.
