Sherborne Castle Fireworks 2017
In the clear skies above Sherborne Castle on Saturday November 4th, the 38th Annual Sherborne Castle Fireworks once again lit up the night and thrilled the 8000-strong crowd in attendance.
The annual Sherborne Castle Fireworks Display is one of the longest standing local firework events and the continued excellence is well known amongst the local population.
Headland once again opened proceedings, this year in the new Marquee Stage, providing cover for both the band and the spectators.
Following the band, the cast of the Octagon Theatre Yeovil’s pantomime thrilled the younger members of the audience, as they gave a sneak preview of what you can expect from their show over the Christmas period.
7pm was heralded with a loud explosion as the Dorset Timber Engineering Bonfire burst into life to the cheers of the crowd. This year the crowd was able to get up close to the fire as the action was relayed to the Fonix LED Screen. Such was the picture quality you could almost feel the heat!
The fireworks followed at 7.30pm and the crowd were once again thrilled whatever their vantage point and the 20min show did not disappoint.
Brent Mitchell of Events Crew comments: Sherborne Castle Fireworks is a great event but each and every year we are making changes to make it even better. This year we added in the new marquee, stage, big screen and VIP area. Next year we hope to make changes to make it even better for everyone.”
“I would like to thank Sherborne Rugby Football Club, Sherborne Football Club, Sherborne Scouts, Sherborne Castle Gardens, Abbey Décor, St Margaret’s Hospice, Abbey 104 and our many suppliers without whom this event would simply not work.”
“The event is privately run, and we must thank Sherborne Castle Estates for allowing us to hire the grounds as a backdrop for this magnificent show. The event is run ‘not-for-profit’ and we expect to donate in the region of £10,000 to local charities once all the invoices are settled. The main beneficiary will be Sherborne Youth Centre who started the event some 38 years ago.”
Sherborne Castle Fireworks will return next year on the 3rd November and the organisers are hoping to continue to make this event the must-see fireworks in the area.
