Sherborne Castle Fireworks light up the skies once more

Saturday 5th November 2016 saw the 37th Sherborne Castle Fireworks take place at the stunning Sherborne Castle in Dorset and record numbers were on hand to witness what is widely regarded as one of the best displays in the region.

In the year that saw Sherborne Youth Club, known as Tinneys, return as main charity partner of the event, it was fitting that over 9,000 people, a new event record, should be on hand to witness the evening’s entertainment. Brent Mitchell, Director of Events Crew comments: “Sherborne Castle Fireworks started to support the Youth Club 37 years ago when I was a member. I am extremely pleased to be able to once again offer the support of this great local event to a great local institution.”

“9,000 people came to this great event and over 1600 cars were parked on site. We would like to thank those that took the advice to arrive early. This support and consideration is what makes Sherborne such a great place to host this event.”

Headland once again kicked off the show with a set of great rock songs to get the blood flowing and energy levels rising. The cast of the Octagon Theatre’s Pantomime, Peter Pan, were working their way through the crowds, posing for pictures with the enthusiastic crowd.  The fire was started at 7 pm with a spectacular explosion of fireworks and the Peter Pan cast were then on stage entertaining the children in typical pantomime fashion while waiting for the fireworks to begin.

At 7.30pm, the fireworks show with musical accompaniment started with a bang and kept the audience entertained throughout the full 20 minute duration, building to a massive crescendo that left the crowd applauding and talking long into the night both in person and on social media forums.   Many people stayed on to enjoy the funfair and food stalls to complete a very entertaining evening.

Brent continues “We would like to thank Sherborne Castle and all our partners J D Engineering, Abbey 104fm, Dorset Timber Engineering and the Octagon Theatre in making this year one of the best ever and we look forward to delivering a bigger and better experience next year. We would also like to thank all of our volunteers, without whom this event would not be the success it is.”

Sherborne Castle Fireworks works closely with local charities and this year Sherborne Rugby Club, Sherborne Football Club, Sherborne Scouts, Sherborne Community Church, as well as Tinneys Youth Club, who provide invaluable support, will be the main beneficiaries.

Sherborne Castle Fireworks will return next year for the 38th Year and plans are already beginning to make it even more spectacular and the provisional date is Saturday 4th November. For more information on the event please visit
