Pack Monday Fair - Sherborne

Local events management company Events Crew Limited has reached agreement with Sherborne Castle Estates regarding the future running of Sherborne’s historic Pack Monday Fair.

With a Licence Agreement it will see Events Crew manage all aspects of the fair on a 5-year deal.

Events Crew were approached by the ‘Pack Monday Fair Working Group’ following feedback on social media. Events Crew were then asked to put together a proposal to take this prestigious event forward with the long-term objective to preserve the event for the future and improve its reputation. Katherine Barker, local historian and member of the working group notes that Pack Monday is Sherborne’s only surviving medieval street fair, the earliest description dates to the 1790s and makes for colourful reading.”

Events Crew are the team behind Sherborne Castle Fireworks and work on some of the UK’s largest events including IRONMAN UK Triathlon, Virgin Sport races, Bournemouth Marathon Festival, Edinburgh Marathon Festival and recently Children in Need for BBC Somerset supporting the Great Wellington Walk amongst many others.

Brent Mitchell, Managing Director of Events Crew comments “Having been born and raised in Sherborne I have attended many Pack Monday Fair events over the years. We believe that we can re-energise the event and give new life to this wonderful old tradition.”
“We have supported Pack Monday for many years, supplying equipment and services, but the recent appointment of Julian Hubbuck, ex Operations Director of the Great Dorset Steam Fair, to the Events Crew team will allow us to take on a much larger role promoting events.”

Julian Hubbuck comments “I am delighted that we have been given this opportunity. I have passion for event management and the opportunity of working on such an important event in the Sherborne calendar is very exciting.”
“Many events across the country have been ending due to increasing legislation and time involved in organising them. It would be a great shame for this to happen to Pack Monday. We understand that improvements need to be made to the event and are very keen to work closely with the community and businesses of Sherborne. We want to hear from the community and to listen to any ideas and suggestions that people want to make about the future of Pack Monday Fair. This is a community event and we want to secure it for the future and make it something that everybody is proud of and supports”.

William Beveridge, Land Agent Sherborne Castle Estates comments “Following the retirement of the person running the Pack Monday Fair for many years, Sherborne Castle Estates are very pleased to have agreed to licence the rights to hold the event to Events Crew Limited for 2018 and thereafter. We are confident that they have the ability and local connections to reinvigorate the Fair and make it into an annual event of which Sherborne can be proud.”

Jon Andrews (Sherborne Town Councillor, Dorset County Councillor) comments "I am delighted that Events Crew will be taking over the running of Pack Monday Fair as from 2018. I am sure this will preserve this historic day in Sherborne's calendar for many years to come. I would like to congratulate the committee chaired by Debs Wylie that have worked to find a solution after the retirement of Judy Reynolds and commend Sherborne Castle Estates on their decision to appoint Events Crew. I am informed that there will be some new innovations over the Pack Monday weekend and a better balance of stall holders including local produce and I wish Events Crew every success."

Pack Monday Fair is a unique and very important event in the Sherborne calendar and one that should be preserved and built upon. Brent Mitchell and Events Crew Limited are perfectly positioned to take on this responsibility, the Fair thus being managed by a locally-based, experienced and professional team who has the full support of the informal ‘steering committee’.
