A Sherborne Spectacular to warm the winter night!

The 35th Annual Sherborne Castle Fireworks took place on November 8th 2014 and once again wowed the people of Sherborne and the surrounding area to one of the biggest and best displays in the South West!

The Sherborne Castle Fireworks annual spectacular regularly attracts over 8000 people to the grounds of the historic Sherborne Castle and visitors are treated to an evening of entertainment including the 20 minute Fireworks show, bonfire, music from Headland and a performance from the Octagon Theatre pantomime cast.

A wet build up to the event led to many answered calls to the event hotline, wondering if the event would still be going ahead, however Brent Mitchell of Events Crew was never in doubt: “We are a professional event logistic and management company who have worked on some of the Uk’s major sporting events as well as national news leading stories, we know the show must go on! We are very active on social media and used twitter and Facebook throughout the day and the event to keep people up to date with the news of what was happening.  We are well versed in dealing with the weather and I think people who came this year would vouch for this and found little or no weather disruption. We also look to put on a wide variety of entertainment to give a great show whatever happens.”

On the evening, the gates opened at 5pm with many visitors choosing to get there early to take advantage of the numerous local food stalls and fun fair rides. Headland kicked off the entertainment at 6pm on the Events Crew Stage with a rousing set of rock and pop classics.

At 6.45pm on the 2nd Stage, the cast of the Octagon Theatre’s, production of “Jack and the Beanstalk” entertained the crowd with songs and laughter before being rudely interrupted by the ‘Giant’ as he lit the fire with a loud explosion and rockets firing overhead!

With the ‘Giant’ safely back under wraps, the crowd waited in anticipation for the fireworks, in the background a rousing “hero” theme music played supplied by the Octagon theatre to thrill and delight the crowd and at 7.30pm, the first rockets launched and the show was well and truly underway!

For the next 20 minutes, those in attendance watched a great music themed show, with some loud bangs, high flyers and intricate displays, designed to delight and entertain all ages. The show, building to a rousing and deafening conclusion did not disappoint and received an ovation from the crowd.

The Sherborne Castle Fireworks is an event at the heart of the local community and can only succeed with the help of many people including Mr & Mrs Wingfield-Digby of Sherborne Castle and the sponsors, Dorset Timber Engineering, The Breeze and. J Day Engineering. The event also relies heavily on volunteers and special thanks must go to Sherborne Girls School, Sherborne Rugby Club and Sherborne Scouts for their hard work and support.

The 2015 show is scheduled to take place on Saturday November 7th 2015 and will once again offer an exciting evening of entertainment whatever the weather!
